Bruce Springsteen may have been born to run, but baby, I was born to cook. I started cooking (supervised, of course!) at age 7 with my mom and great Aunt Lily. I attended college for a year but dropped out when I got the opportunity to study at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. I flew to Paris the day after my nineteenth birthday and I haven’t looked back! Living and studying in Paris for a year was transformative to a teenager who came from a small town in Maine. After returning to the United States I began my restaurant career and after several years in restaurants I decided that I needed to gain more knowledge and expand my horizon. With that in mind I enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. I have worked in restaurants in New York, Maine and the Island of St. John. As much as I love to cook, it was clear that the life of a restaurant chef was not for me. Long hours and little pay took its toll.
In 1999 I found a new home in the San Francisco Bay Area and spent several years working in the wine industry before I returned to my true calling, cooking. In 2005 I established the Studio of Good Living after a close friend passed away due to illness. I started to look at food and my work as a chef differently. I wanted to work with people and teach them about their own nutritional requirements and how to incorporate that knowledge into delicious meals and snacks that they enjoy eating. I believe that everyone should be able to eat fresh, healthy and tasty food regardless of circumstance.
Over the years I have expanded the company to include cooking classes, personal chef services, catering and meal delivery services. Whether you need to learn some basic cooking techniques, have a few questions for our culinary counselors or need a caterer for your event, we can help!
