Bruce Springsteen may have been born to run, but baby, I was born to cook. I started cooking as a kid with my mom and my great aunt Lily. They were both great in the kitchen—my mom baked all the time–and let me play around and experiment as much as I wanted. Although neither of my parents were hippies, we ate like hippies.
By that I mean no processed foods and we made almost everything at home. We even tapped our maple trees and made maple syrup every spring. When I ran out of books to read, which was frequently, I would read cookbooks.
I dreamt of going to cooking school as a young child, and when I was 19, I was given the opportunity to study at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France. Needless to say I jumped at the chance and haven’t looked back since.
After my return from France I continued my education working in restaurants, and eventually found myself back in Culinary School, this time at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park, New York. I spent two years there, and graduated with an AOS degree in the culinary arts.
The Cordon Bleu and the CIA couldn’t be more different. The two educational styles complemented each other and gave me a well rounded education. As a result, I know a lot of minutiae about the culinary arts and I feel comfortable cooking just about anything. There is nothing that pleases me more than to make something beautiful and fragrant to eat. This is what I was meant to do, and I love sharing my cooking skills and knowledge with others.
The Studio of Good Living was developed out of my passion for food and family. I believe that everyone should eat well and be able to cook a few quick and tasty meals for themselves and their family. Everything that I cook is grounded in technique. If you choose to take a class with me I will give you tips and teach you techniques so that you can reproduce what we make successfully in your home kitchen. My easy going personality and calm cooking style make me a good teacher for a wide variety of people. Visit our Upcoming Events for more information.
I hope you become a part of our online community and blog. The Studio of Good Living is your place for all things culinary. Join me today! Bon Appetit!
